Baby Safety Month

September is Baby Safety Month! Babyproofing is an essential focus during Baby Safety Month. As babies grow and get bigger, they begin to discover their environment. Sometimes their inquisitive nature can lead them towards risks and things that are not safe.

Some great Safety tips are:

  1. Make sure your car seats are installed correctly.

  2. A firm mattress and fitted sheet are all you need for your baby’s crib. Remove blankets and toys from the crib and use a sleep sack on colder nights.

  3. Place your baby’s crib and other furniture away from windows.

  4. Set your water heater to 120° F to avoid burns.

  5. Install working smoke alarm AND a carbon monoxide alarm on every level of your home, and in all sleeping areas.

  6. Never leave a baby unattended on beds, sofas, chairs, changing tables, or any place where they might roll off or fall.

  7. Install baby gates at the tops and bottom of your stairways.

  8. Know or have quick access to emergency numbers such as 911, and poison control.

  9. Have outlets covered and corners "bumpered".

  10. Keep small objects out of reach of children to reduce choking hazards.

  11. Choose quality Infant/Child Care (Such as Head Start!).

  12. Never leave a baby/child unattended in the bath.
